Kim Keever in Rolling Stone for Joanna Newsom's "Divers"

New york

From Rolling Stone:

"Joanna Newsom recently released her new LP Divers, and to support the critically acclaimed album, the singer has released the video for new single, 'Divers.' Director Paul Thomas Anderson helmed the clip, and like the PTA-directed 'Sapokanikan,' the seven-minute video is a low-key affair, with Newsom singing the track amid sumptuous landscapes and cloudy skies, making her intricate lyricism the focal point. It's a reunion for the singer and director, who teamed up last year when Anderson cast Newsom in his latest film, Inherent Vice.

'Divers' was filmed at the studio of visual artist Kim Keever, who crafted the video's imagery and designed much of Divers' packaging. The video previously screened in approximately 50 movie theaters across the U.S. The harpist premiered the video earlier this month at New York's IFC Center.

Divers, Newsom's first album since her triple album Have One on Me in 2010, was recorded by Steve Albini and Noah Georgeson and features musical arrangements from Newsom, Nico Muhly and the Dirty Projectors' Dave Longstreth. As Newsom told Rolling Stone, one of the themes on Divers is 'the question of what's available to us as part of the human experience that isn't subject to the sovereignty of time.'"
