Following the success of two previous exhibitions which presented David Bomberg's work in the context of his leading role in the Borough group, Waterhouse & Dodd are pleased to host a solo exhibition of the British artist's paintings and drawings from a private collection.
Historically, Bomberg's significance and prowess has been unduly overlooked in the story of British Modernism, but this exhibition coincides with a renaissance in his reputation. In 2011 he was the subject of a major BBC 4 documentary. This year being the 60th anniversary of his passing, a new monograph and touring exhibition of his work is to open at the Pallant House Gallery on the 21st of October. Our collector took this as a sign that it was timely to bring his treasures into the public eye. This exhibition constitutes a rare opportunity to observe a turbulent moment in Bomberg's life and artistic development at close range, as mediated by a collector who has investigated it intimately.
